So, we got there on Thursday afternoon and checked into our rooms at the Westin Saint Francis Hotel on Powell Street. It's a very fancy hotel that faces Union Square, and our rooms were in the newer tower building. The boys and I were in one room, and my mom and Misty were in the room across the hall from ours. Genentech was paying up to $200 per day for our meals, and we ordered room service that first night.
Bright and early on Friday morning, the driver hired by Genentech picked is up and whisked us across the Bay Bridge to a nice house in Oakland where the photo and video shoots were going to be done. That is where everything became somewhat surreal!
There were makeup, hair, and wardrobe people who tended to Ricky, Andrew, Misty, my mom, and me. There was also a set teacher who kept Misty and Andrew entertained and also helped keep Ricky on task when necessary.

Ricky had lots of individual photos taken (including many in the outfit you see in this picture, in the theme of soccer) and we also had family pictures taken.

Then we had our video interviews... I went first, and then Ricky went.

Lastly, the video folks did some shots of the boys playing soccer. Eventually Misty got into the act and they got footage of her playing, too. It was very cute.

When it was all over, the driver took us back to the hotel. Then, while Misty and my mom napped, the boys and I set out to explore Union Square. We first rode up and down in the elevator and then found a couple of geocaches nearby.
Then we went back to the hotel and decided on dinner... The kids and I walked up to a local noodle place and brought back udon, soba, and ramen for dinner. It was delicious.
After that, while Misty settled down for the night, I took the boys across the street to Union Square for some outdoor ice skating. The session was going to be over in 40 minutes, but we got free skate rental because of that and it turned out to be just enough time for us to be tired out!
I had not skated since Ricky was a toddler, and the boys had never tried it. It all came back to me, though my feet/ankles still hurt. The boys inched along the walls of the rink trying to do as good as they could.

Andrew finally figured out that if he just stood still, he wouldn't fall over. He threatened to stay that way the rest of the skate session. ;)

We went back to the hotel after having refreshing drinks at the little café nearby. Then we settled down for the night, but not before Ricky did his treatment...
